  Akcja filmu
toczy się w Berlinie Zachodnim końca lat 70-tych. 14-letnia Christiane wychowuje się w rozbitej rodzinie.
Zajęta karierą zawodową matka dziewczyny nie jest w stanie poświęcić jej odpowiedniej uwagi.
Kiedy zagubiona nastolatka poznaje narkomana Detlefa, bardzo łatwo daje się chłopakowi wciągnąć
w nałóg. Od tej chwili następuje całkowita degradacja życia Christiane. Bohaterka przechodzi typowe
piekło osoby uzależnionej, którego kolejnymi etapami są: prostytucja, kradzieże i handel narkotykami.
Zrealizowany przez niemieckiego debiutanta Uli Edela dramat spotkał się z entuzjastycznym przyjęciem
młodzieżowej publiczności w całej Europie Zachodniej. Podobnie jak jego literacki pierwowzór - film
ten stał się dla straconego pokolenia lat 80-tych pozycją kultową.
